You have to live in this world too

You have to live in the world that results from the consequences of what you build.

There is little innovation in unregulated industries. Innovation is born from constraints. What I am seeing more and more with AI ā€œsolutionsā€ is not innovation or creativity, but the most obvious and easiest things to do. These are almost always at the expense of a world that is enjoyable to live in. Real people face the consequences and our experiences, both online and offline, suffer.

I am often baffled at the comparison of AI to the Industrial Revolution. You mean that time in history that I’ve only previously ever heard of in negative connotations as people say ā€œGee, we sure could have done that better!ā€. Now, entire communities are polluted and left with blight. My home town is one of many. A very small few enriched themselves while vast many more suffered and faced the consequences of economic instability and environmental pollution that lead to severe health consequences.

We could have done things differently. It’s on us and everyone who comes after us to remember the names of individuals and companies that worked toward better human conditions and those that couldn’t care less for the consequences of their actions.
